Based on the novel by Kikushima Ryuzo, the film depicts the gripping rescue mission and the desperation of the trapped miners with a generous dose of humanism. Set in the primitive Towa coal mine managed by Sugawara, the story unfolds during a rainy season when catastrophe strikes. As the wooden framework supporting the mine tunnel collapses, it plunges into a hellish landscape of soil and water. The five brave miners, including Banano, find themselves buried alive.
